My Roots

I’m a Wallingford native, daughter of Wallingford Public Schools teacher Edward Mushinsky and Masonicare employee Rita O'Leary Mushinsky, and granddaughter of immigrant Stephen Mushinsky, a merchant tailor who settled in Wallingford and later owned his own shop which operated for nearly a century.

Education

I graduated from Holy Trinity School, Sacred Heart Academy, Southern Connecticut State University, Wesleyan University and the Alternate Route to Teacher Certification Program.

A biologist by training, I worked with the US Forest Service, as a community organizer and a substitute teacher. Today I am executive director of River Advocates of South Central Connecticut, a non-profit group dedicated to protecting the Quinnipiac, Mill and West Rivers.

Family

With my husband Martin J. Waters, a now retired journalist, I raised two adult children, Martin and Ed. They graduated from Wallingford Public Schools and established their own careers.
